“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything, according to His will, He will hear us. And if we know that He hears us – whatever we ask – we know that we have what we asked of Him.” I John 5:14-15
Today, when I asked Siri and Alexa for some information, it occurred to me that I may be speaking to Siri and Alexa more than I talk to God. When I call, I know they’ll answer. They respond quickly and have the information I need. When I talk or pray to God, do I know He’ll answer? If He does, He doesn’t always respond so quickly.
Even more disturbing than whether or not He answers quickly, I wonder if I’m bothering to listen for God to answer me at all. Do I wait for His answer or move on too quickly to find any answer elsewhere.
Siri or Alexa or God?? Siri and Alexa are virtual assistants. Did you know the name Siri means “beautiful woman who leads you to victory”? Did you know the name Alexa means “defender or protector of man.” Pretty powerful names leading us to believe they are everything and know everything; however, they are made up of artificial (manufactured) intelligence. They are a resource that mostly understands and responds to my questions and requests - Unless the internet is down. God is NEVER down or “out of service.” His answers are also not “manufactured.”
What does the name of God mean? Yahweh means He brings into existence whatever exists. God means “supreme being.” God has many names. Jehovah Jireh, Shaddai, Adoni, Jehovah Rapha, Jehovah shalom, El Roi…….Those names mean, God is provider, Lord, God is peace, the one who hears…. These names have even more power than the name, Siri or Alexa.
The other problem with Siri and Alexa is they’re limited with their answers. God is NOT! “God asks Moses, ‘Is the Lord’s power limited?’” Num. 11:23
Siri is able to respond to 6 million requests at once. There is probably no limit to how many requests a day you can make of Alexa either. If I talk to God, He can respond to 6 million PLUS requests. Not only that but He knows what I’m going to ask before I even ask! “Before they call I will answer; while they are yet speaking, I will hear.” Isa. 65:24.
Siri and Alexa need iOS updates. God does not need updates.“ Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Heb. 13:8
God never responds with. “I’m not sure about that.” “Ah, Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee.” Jere. 32:17
Siri and Alexa don’t care about our feelings. God does – He loves to look into our eyes, see our smile, and hear us talk to Him. “ God is present in our distress and cares for us deeply. “The Lord is near to the “brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18 Siri and Alexa cannot do anything for our broken hearts or crushed spirit.
God calls us and speaks to us even when we don’t ask Him a question. He does ask us to listen to Him in return though. God‘s voice is not a resource or virtual (effective) assistant, it’s a relationship. Neither Siri or Alexa have a soul so even though it seems they have all the answers, they do not have the Holy Spirit. They are both an “it”. The Holy Spirit is not an “it.”The Holy Spirit guides us, comforts us, and empowers us. Siri and Alexa CANNOT any of that!
You activate either one by calling their name - “hey Siri” or “Alexa”. God is always activated!
What happens if you turn Alexa or Siri off? You will never receive an answer. You can never turn God off or stop Him from speaking. God has spoken, He does speak, and He always will speak. God is never without power. “My words will never disappear.” Matt. 24:35 No one can quiet Him!
How much more should we be listening to Him over Siri and Alexa??
