The Lifestyle of Noah

“Noah walked with God.” Gen. 6:9

“Walked with” means it was a walk that was with deep intimacy, and constant communion so when God spoke to him, it was not  necessarily a “surprise” revelation. When God asked Noah to build the ark, it probably didn’t seem foolish or out of character to Noah, but it sounded foolish to the rest of the world who were NOT walking with God or they walked with Him in seasons. Walking with God was not seasonal or a patterned formula for Noah. It was His willingness to be open to whatever God wanted to do in his life. He was open to whatever God said or did. It was his lifestyle. “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law, he meditates day and night .” Psalm 1:1-2 Noah didn’t walk in the wickedness of the world at that time. He walked his lifestyle of one who is meditating on God day and night. He delighted in God and His ways.

Our walk with God today should be no different. Walking close with God is not a formula, not seasonal, not situational and not circumstantial. It is a close relationship and Godly lifestyle from meditating on Him day and night.

At times we say we’ve prayed and prayed and prayed for an answer and read His word, but we’re not hearing anything from Him. Are we treating Him as a formula that if we pray and read the Word, we will get an answer? Have we done those things only because we want an answer NOW? And do we expect a particular answer? 1+1=2 We expected the answer to be 2. Pray + Read the Word = Answer I want. That formula doesn’t work.

A formula is a standardized method of coming to an answer or solution. God is NOT a formula that has a standard method. He is a lifestyle! Let His Holy Spirit guide you and speak to you. Don’t expect a formula from Him.

A lifestyle is living every day with Christ beside you. When you walk with Him continually, there is no formula, pattern or set time for intimacy with Him. You are open to whatever He has for you.

Answers and lifestyle don’t come to us from God because we followed a formula; they are revealed to us DAILY because of the depth of our reverence of God and the depth of our intimacy with Him. “His divine power (not a formula) has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us to His own glory and excellence, by which He has granted to us His precious and very great promises.” 2 Peter 1:3 Noah’s lifestyle was a relationship, openness and the knowledge of God that represented God‘s divine power in him because he walked with Him daily, which granted him life and godliness without a formula.
