In your life, do you have a situation where there’s an obstacle or block that needs to move or change? You need a change in your situation. Have you prayed about it and nothing seems to be happening?
In John 5:1-9, there’s a pool called Bethesda. It’s where sick people, blind, lame, and paralyzed are waiting to be healed by the moving of the water. They need a change in their situation. There was a particular lame man who had been there for 38 years. Jesus asks him “do you want to be made well?” Matt. 5:6
The man says he has nobody to help him and others keep stepping in front of him so change can’t happen in his situation. He’s making excuses why he hadn’t been healed yet. Jesus didn’t ask for that information. He just asked the man if he wanted to be healed. Did he want a change in his situation? The man’s excuse’s explained to Jesus how things work at the pool and telling Him how and why he can’t get to the water that heals. He doesn’t seem to understand. He doesn’t need to get to the water. Jesus will get to him. The water won’t change him, Jesus will. Your situation may not change, but Jesus will get to you.
What situation in your life is an area that needs to change? Do you need a change in salary to make ends meet? Do you need to be healed from a disease to live without pain? Do you need a change to make life easier or more comfortable for you? What obstacle are you waiting to see move?
Maybe what you need is not a movement or change in your situation, but for you to allow God to work with you in the situation. Do you want the situation to change or are you the one who needs to change? Do we want God to change our circumstances more than we want him to change us? The man wanted to get to the water more than he wanted to be healed. All Jesus asked him was “do you want to be made well.” You can be in a situation that God doesn’t need to change, but He allows you to feel better and handle it better. Say “yes” to Him and let Him change YOU.
“Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.”
