Shadow of His Wings

Yesterday morning I was praying to God about just needing to feel like He cares. I’m not going through anything difficult; I’m not doubting God is there. I just wanted to feel a little extra sense that He cares. I know we’ve all needed a reassurance at times that He cares. I didn’t need any big miracles or big prayers answered-just wanted Him to remind me He cares.

I went about my day but all morning I had a scripture and a song stuck in my head-just 3 lines over and over and over… “As I hide in the shadow of your wings”, and “Sing Over Me.” And, “He will rejoice over me with singing.” I couldn’t remember exactly where they were in the Bible but I needed to find out why just those short lines were REALLY stuck in my head.

I started by looking up the word “wing” in my concordance. I found the reference that stated it’s in Psalm 17:8. I closed my concordance. I picked up my Bible and just flipped it open. It opened to the exact page of Psalm 17:8!! My eyes landed on the verses 6-8.

“ I call on you, O God, for you will answer me, give ear to me and hear my prayer… keep me as the apple of your eye, hide me in the shadow of your wings.”

God had heard my prayer and answered me by showing it to me directly in scripture! I called on Him and He answered!

It immediately made me think of when a baby cries, the mother picks the baby u and cuddles the baby to calm them down. They may not have even needed anything except to be held and known that they were cared about so they cried out.

Being held in someone’s arms is the same as being under their wing. When we are in the shadow of God‘s wing, we are being held in His arms. It shows He cares. It is a form of protection, and it is calming to our spirit.

When we are in the shadow of His wing, we have a different perspective. We are looking out from within. In the shadow of his arms, we see the challenges out there from within His protection, while listening to Him singing over us. It is soothing and reassuring, that He cares and is always with us.

I then remembered that the verse of “singing over me” was in Zephaniah 3:17. I turned there and read it. Not only does a mother pick up her baby and cuddle it, but sometimes she sings over it. Listening to one who loves us singing over us is soothing and reassuring that He cares and is with us.

These verses reminded me that He is with me now, and He does care. Even though nothing is “wrong”, and I am not fearful about anything, I cried out to Him. He heard me holds and cuddles me in the shadow of His wing and sings over me.
