In Isaiah 6:1 the scripture says “The train of His robe filled the temple.” There are many songs that use the phrase “The train of His robe fills the temple.”
What does that phrase mean anyway ? I’ve heard it for years and always wondered what it meant so I decided to research it.
A train is the back portion that trails behind the wearer. Great earthly kings commonly wore flowing robes. It showed the rest of the world how powerful the king was in a particular country. As a king defeated another country, he would cut off a swatch of the defeated Kings robe and sew it onto his own robe forming a train. The robe grew longer with each victory. When a swatch was cut off of a defeated kings robe, it symbolically removed a little part of that Kings authority to rule. A swatch is a piece of what you have been through. Add it to your robe of victory!
Eventually the Kings train became longer and longer showing that he was the victor of many battles. The longer a train, the more significant it was because it symbolized that King’s power and strength. The longer the robe, the more victories and the safer His Kingdom is!
King Jesus’s train is so long that it fills the WHOLE temple! He has conquered everything! His robe is a symbol of strength, power, majesty, authority and a dress of dignity for the world to see. What a great comfort there is knowing Jesus has already defeated every enemy!
AND, “Don’t you know that you yourselves are God‘s temple and that God‘s spirit lives in you?” The ruler and victor of EVERY battle lives in you and fills your temple!
