In Matthew 25, Jesus tells a parable of a man who entrusted his coins to 3 men. To one he gave 5 talents (ancient gold coin), to another he gave 2 talents, and to the third one he gave 1 talent. The man with 5 talents worked and gained 5 more. The second man worked also and gained 2 more but the man who had 1 talent, he dug a hole in the ground and buried his coin. When the master of the 3 men found out what they had done with their coins, he was pleased with the ones who had increased. He considered them good and faithful men. The third man explained that he was afraid and so he hid his coin. He played it safe.
What if the coins in the story represented life circumstances that we have been through-things that have left us marked. Those life coins have value. Our life circumstances have value. God divides out coins or circumstances for us to learn and grow from. Some coins we pick up on our own. Some people have more coins than others. Some have been given more difficult life circumstances than others. No matter what coins we have, He expects us to use them wisely.
We are responsible to use what God has given us to increase His Kingdom. How do we increase his kingdom? We use what coins we have and invest in others by sharing our experiences and how God marked us as His for life. If we bury what we know about God, we will not increase in faith or His Kingdom.
A coin is a piece of metal stamped with marks or characters. In order to be “good”money, these impressions or marks must be made under the authority of the government or some higher authority. If its stamped WITHOUT that authority, it is false and worthless.
Are our lives and coins “stamped” by His authority? Some of my coins would be salvation, restoration, cancer survivor, death of parents… Those coins left a stamp or mark on me. Because of God being in my life, those situations were stamped by His authority and have value. I have increased and gained more to invest. What coins are in your hand? Are they stamped with His mark?
The issue is not what circumstance is stamped on our coins but is it stamped with His authority and marks. It’s also about what we do with the coins and do we use them to increase His kingdom. What value do your coins have?
Don’t bury your coins – Steward them and increase them and increase their value. Invest them wisely.
Don’t ignore or forget what He has put in your hand.
Don’t play it safe and bury what circumstances you have been through.
Use your coins, invest them wisely, and let them multiply for His glory.
Is your life stamped by Him? What coins has he given you? Are your coins stamped by His authority. Are you diligently preparing for His return by investing your coins to increase His Kingdom?
